Research-use context: “What it is used for” below means what scientists and clinical researchers have investigated—not an instruction or recommendation for personal use.

What researchers study

MOTS-c is a mitochondrial-derived peptide studied for metabolic signaling, glucose handling, skeletal-muscle biology, exercise adaptation and age-related changes in physical capacity.

Potential side effects & unknowns

Human safety after administered MOTS-c has not been established through large clinical trials. Much of the promising efficacy work comes from cells and animals, so adverse effects, interactions and long-term systemic risks remain uncertain.

Research highlight

Preclinical work has reported improved insulin sensitivity and physical capacity in animal models. Human studies have also shown that endogenous circulating MOTS-c changes with exercise, but those observational findings are not proof that taking exogenous MOTS-c produces the same outcomes.
