Tesamorelin is a growth-hormone-releasing hormone analogue. An FDA-approved tesamorelin product is indicated to reduce excess abdominal fat in adults with HIV-associated lipodystrophy; that approval does not extend to general weight loss, bodybuilding or anti-aging.
FDA labeling lists injection-site reactions, joint and extremity pain, muscle pain, peripheral edema, carpal-tunnel symptoms, hypersensitivity, elevated IGF-1 and glucose intolerance/hyperglycemia among important adverse effects and precautions.
Randomized clinical trials in adults with HIV-associated lipodystrophy found reductions in visceral abdominal fat that were sustained with continued treatment. That is real clinical evidence, but it applies to the approved indication and regulated drug product—not automatically to other uses or research formulations.
